Overview
Trek360AI uses location data to provide core functionality including navigation, route tracking, weather forecasts, and safety features. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your location data.
What Location Data We Collect
GPS Coordinates
Precise latitude/longitude data from your device's GPS sensor during active tracking sessions.
Approximate Location
City or region-level location for weather forecasts and nearby trail suggestions (does not require GPS).
Route Data
Waypoints, elevation data, and path information recorded during trips and hikes.
Saved Locations
Places you manually save, such as favorite trailheads, fishing spots, or landmarks.
When Location Data Is Collected
Active Tracking Only
Precise GPS data is collected only when you explicitly start a tracking session (e.g., "Start Hike", "Start Trip"). We do not collect location data in the background.
Weather & Suggestions
Approximate location may be used to provide weather forecasts and nearby recommendations. This uses IP-based or device-level location and does not require continuous GPS access.
SOS & Live Sharing
During an active SOS alert or live tracking share, your location is transmitted in real-time to your emergency contacts or shared recipients. This stops immediately when you end the session.
How We Use Location Data
Your location data is used to:
- Provide turn-by-turn navigation and route guidance
- Record your trip history and statistics
- Generate personalized trail and activity recommendations
- Display weather forecasts for your current location
- Enable live tracking sharing with people you invite
- Power SOS emergency alerts with your coordinates
- Show nearby trails, landmarks, and points of interest
- Generate community heatmaps (anonymized and aggregated only)
Who Sees Your Location
Your location is shared only in the following cases:
- Live Tracking: With people you explicitly invite to track your session
- SOS Alerts: With your configured emergency contacts and, if applicable, emergency services
- Community Posts: Only if you choose to attach a location to a post (optional)
- Anonymized Heatmaps: Aggregated, non-identifiable data for community trail popularity maps
We never sell your location data. We never share identifiable location data with advertisers.
Storage & Security
- Location data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest
- GPS tracks are stored securely in your account
- Live tracking data is ephemeral and not stored after the session ends
- You can export or delete your location data at any time
- Location data is included in account deletion requests
Your Controls
You have full control over your location data:
- Disable GPS: You can use Trek360AI without enabling GPS — some features will be limited
- Delete Trips: Delete individual trips and their associated GPS data
- Export Data: Export all your location data in standard formats (GPX, JSON)
- Privacy Settings: Control whether your location is attached to posts or visible on community maps
- Account Deletion: All location data is permanently deleted when you delete your account
